Samiah Khashoggi

Samiah has a Bachelor degree in interior design from Kingston University in 1983, and a Master degree in Fine Arts from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK in 2006. Samiah’s life has been divided between her job as a lecturer of Interior Design at Dar Al Hekma University in Jeddah and her art practice since 1990- to present. Samiah has exhibited in numerous group shows. Her first solo exhibition, ‘Reflections’ was held in 2000 at Al Alamiya Art Gallery in Jeddah. Her art developed from conventional realism to a more stylized expressionist approach. Women and nature have been her main subjects, moving from oil painting to acrylics, collage and mixed media, constantly exploring different methods of visual expressions. In 2005, Samiah founded Saudiaat, a women artists’ group diverse in their styles and techniques united by their gender and solidarity. Her second solo exhibition, Mashii Mashii debuting her "Patches" series, was held on May 5th 2014 at Tashkeil Art space in Jeddah. She later curated "Anonymous… Was A Woman" at Hafez Gallery, Jeddah in 2015, showcasing the representation of women by women artists in a range of diverse art media.
